YOUTH IS AN ASSET
» ^ "nothing disgusts as a WORN OUT NET" It was a signal honour for him to have the opportunity of speaking to a body of young men such as the Junior Chamber of Commerce. Many of those who were members had travelled widely during the war and had progressive ideas. It would be a good thing for the town if they instilled into it the'new ideas of the world. Stressing this opinion when speaking to members of the chamber on Thursday nigh\ Mr. Hector McDonald, a well-i.nown identity of the district, commented favourably upon the fact that the youth of Levin,- by its aciio^/hx inaugurating the organisation in this town, had shown a willingness fco interest itself in its affairs and progress. "Nothing disgusts as a worn out net," he added, quoting an old Maori proverb to emphasise the opinion that youth was required in the progressive administration of any community. An, orgaqjsation such as the Levin Junior Chamber was an asset to any town. Man, if he lived on his own, was a con.servative in that he thought only of himself and his own advancement. "When you are one of a crowd then you get somewhere near progress." The Junior Chamber was, he understood, interested in the problems of the town. In that respect it would have plenty of work as Levin would always have problems. "As long as there is one person in the community who has not the same economic security as his fellows, the world will not be right," Mr. McDonald concluded. ■ii 1 1 r-^wn ■ ■ i
