SELECTION OF PURCHASES
NEED FOR EX-SERVICEMEN TO EXERCISE CARE An appeal to returned seryiceT men to be more careful i'n the selection of their purchase when contemplating entry into the transport business, was made by Mr. P. Skoglund, No. 2 Transport Licensing Authority, in Levin yeslerday. He wag commenting on a case before the -authority, where a returned serviceman was disputing the transfer! of two licenses to operate a goods service within the borough of Otaki. The goods service was run in conjunction with another business, which was being sold, and it was pointed out by the authority that as one vehicle would have- to be sold with the business, he doubted, if a transfer of the other vehicle authority was made to the returned man, whether there {would be a sufffcient living for- him. "I want to help the' returned men, but I don't want t.o put them in positions where they will be ruining " -themselves," He also advised the Rehabilitation Department to make a careful investigation into such businesses before coming before the authority. The prices of trucks today made it difficult tor returned men_, loading themselves with such liabilities, to find repayments and make a decent living, unless the business was a really good one.
