Despite the fact that oranges are reputed to be in large supply ,|n the North Island, and a special sugar ration is about to be released for marmalade making, inquiries made in Levin today reveal that the fruit is unobtainable here. Allegations that they were receiving unfair treatment in the matter of distribution was made hy Aome retailers when asked the reason why Levin householders were being deprived of supplies. Oranges and other luxury fruits are landed in bulk in Wellington and sent by the Internal Marketing Division to wholesalen? in Palmerston North, it being left to them to redistribute supplies to Levin and such smaller adjacent towns, expiained one retailer. Inevitably, however, they supplied their own customers first. Levin appeared to be well down on their lists, To date only a few cases have arrived in Levin. One retailer stated that he had seldom repeived more than six cases out of any large shipment. A few, howeyer, were expeeted this week.
