TRADE BETWEEN BRITAIN AND NEW ZEALAND
LONDON, June 23. Figures issued byr the Board of Trade show that Britain's exports to New Zealand in 1946 totalled £26,880,000, eompared with £19,205,000 in 1938, and imports from New Zealand in 1946 were £74,555,000, compared with £46,865,000 in 1938. Britain's principal- exports to New Zealand for 1946, with those for 1938 in parentheses, are as follow: Vehicles, including locomotives, ships and aircraft, £3,708,000 (£3,620,000); machinery, £3,326,000 (£1,691,000); cotton piece goods, £3,193,000 (£744,000) ; iron and steel and manufactures thereof, £1,955,000 (£2,589,000) ; silk and rayon yams and manufactures, £1,867,000 (£359,000) ; woollen and worsted yarns and manufactures, £1,638,000 (£954,000) ; chemieals, drugs, dyes and colours, £1,297,000 (£823,000). 1 Principal imports from New Zealand were as follow: Meat, £28,534,000 (£14,680,000), of . which lamb was £16,198,000 (£8,743,000); dairy produce, £25,639,000 (£20,378,000), of which butter was £16,781,000 (£14,524,000) aud chcese £8,537,000 . (£5,466,000) ; wool, £13,488,000 (£9,206,000). The Board of Trade annouueed that goods worth £89, 7Q0, 000 .were exported in May, which is about £1,000,000 great cr than tbe montlily average for the last quarter of 1946. Imports have been rising sharply since February. The value in May was £15.3,200,000, and ejiceeded the. April figure by £6,100,000, being the liighest for 27 years.
