IHAKARA ALSO CELEBRATES BIRTHDAY
The Ihakara Hall was filled to capacity recently when the president of the Ihakara Women's Institute, Mrs. Butt, welcomed all members and visitors to the celebration of its fourteenth birthday. Two new members, Mesdames Haslock and Wilmshurst, were elected. A letter from the institute's link in England was read. A short sketch, "It's a Pleasure," by Mesdames Perigo and Nichol kept all present in a merry mpod. Mrs. Ivan Taylor sang solos for which she was encored. Winners of social competitions for the afternoon were Mesdames Powell, Addinell, Dalton and Storey and MiSs Clapcott. ■ Presidents from visiting instftutes and past presidents of the celebrant institute each lit a candle on the cake, which had been made by Mrs. R. J. Rolston and iced by Mrs. Johnson, the lat•ter 'the institute's oldest member. Miss Horne, the junior ' member, was called upon to extinguish the candles, after. which she was the recipient of a small gift in'honour of her approaching marriage. Mrs. Gardner, of the South Wellington Federation of W.I.'s cut th'e cake. The monthly competitions were won as fbllows: — Flower: Mrs. Doyle 1, Mrs. R. J. Rolston 2, Mesdames Gardner and Br.ooks 3 (equal). Shrub: Mrs. Dovyie 1, Mrs. Hibbell 2, Mrs. J. H. Rolston 3. Mesdames Malcolm and J. H. Rolston were in charge of a bring-and-buy stall-. After a dainty afterpoon tea served by members of the committee, who were hostesses, the afternoon terminated with the singing of the National Anthem.
