THE GLOVE PARADE
At Durban Johnny de Villiers, contender for the South African cruiser title, won on points from the American Buddy Scott. The decision was hotly disputed, but even the critics were not unanimous The madcap Maxie Rosenbloom and Baer dre making a lot of money touring America with a vaudeville acfc. Maxie Rosenbloom, former world's light-heavyweight champion, was a notorious play-boy-who trained in night clubs, but proved he could also fight as well as clown. Rosenbloom 'won 203 out of 289 bouts and the men he beat were of real class. Maxie Rosenbloom ba'rred no race, colour or creeri and must rank as one of the greatest 175 lb. men in world boxing. Jack London, a former English heavyweight champion, was not impressive when he kayoed the Dutch heavyweight champion, Jan Klien, in the first round. London is seeking a return match with Bruce Woodcock for the title. Ernie Roderick lost his European welter title in Paris to Robert Willemain, of France. Roderick retired at • the end of the ninth round after being well and truly outpointed , by his younger opponent. Randolph Turpin, the Negro middleweight, is being groomed for an Empire middleweight championship bout. When Gus Lesnevich was training in England for his bouts with Mills and Woodcock he was assisted by a y'oung Scottish heavyweight, Ken Shaw. Joe Vella, manager of Lesnevich, took over the contract of Ken Shaw and the Scot is now fighting in New York and doing well. Another fight manager, Connie McCarthy, who handles Ike Williams, world lightweight champion, was impressed by the Irish middleweight., Pat O'Connor, and has imported him to America. Sam Goldman, who handled Pete Herma-h and Tony Canzoneri, has imported an English lightweight', Tommy McGovern.
