ARMS RUNNING GANG ROUNDED UP IN ITALY
Received Friday, 10.20 a.m. GENOA, May 22. The Genoa police have rounded up a gang of arms runners who had been shipping salvaged German war material to the Spanish Republican forces. The ^olice last night intercepted signals flashed to a ship waiting off the Italian coast, and discovered a large cache of arms, including mortars, heavy and light machine-guns, rifles, grenades and ammunition. A member of the gang said thev had been shipping arms by small boats from the Italian Riviera to a place near Marseilles, from whence tlie material was sent into Spain. -
