A donation of £2 2s from Mr. and Vlrs. Green, proprietors of the Kotel Arcadia, to be given in cash jr in the form of a trophy to the 2lub member taking the keenest nterest in training, waS acknow.edged with thanks. It was pointed mt by members of the committee that there would be .difficulty. in • tnaking a fair selection, as theTym was divided into two sections, physical training and boxing.^ It cvas mentioned by Mr. W. Marks, bowever, that Mr. and Mrs. Green had left the arrangements completely b the committee. Afer considerable discjission it was decided that the amount be equally divided etween the two grour>s and separate competitions run. This would give a- gymnastic pupil who later qualified for the boxing class an opportunity of winning both prizes, put it was pointed out by Mr. Jim Macfarlane that the boxing class could also compete in the physical training class, and thus possibly encourage boxers to eontinue this part of their training. It was finally moved that two competitions be arranged, commencing Monday night, for a prize of £1 Is. to the be^t behaved, improved, atxended and attentive pupil m the boxing class and a similar prize for the best behaved;, improved,, attended and attentive pupil m the physical training class. A. donation of two towels by Mr. C. Larsen for use in the gym was accepted with thanks. , . The difficult/y of obtaining gymnastic equipment was me-n-tioned by the secretary, Mr W. C. Childs, who said that a letter had been sent to the War Assets Realisation Board in Wellington, asking it to advise . the club if any equipment was obtainable through that source. A reply had been received intimating that no such equipment was at present in stock, but that it was usually put up for auction. The board advised the club to watch the -advertising columns of the newspapers for f uture announcements on • such auctions. Commenting on the_ letter, the president, Mr. J. W . Rimmer, said that gymnastic equipment was unprocurable; not even matenal to construct it was available. The secretary added that it appeared as if the club would have to eontinue to borrow equipment until the position was relieved. After discussio'n it was eventually decided that Mr. C. Larsen, who was shortly travelling to Wellington on business, be given a list of articles, including matting, which was urgently required, with instructions to visit the depots of War Assets Realisation Board with a view to making further enquiries. Reporting on the gym practices, the instructors stated that lighting was the main difficulty. The physical training instructor, Mr. C. Wilkinson, said that as the present restrictions made it impossible to hold classes for the juniors prior to 7.30 p.m., the result was that the two classes v/ere being conducted together and this was very unsatisfactory. The matter was left in abeyance, it being agreed that the junior class should commence at 7 p.m. when lighting restrictions were lifted. At the close of the meeting the secretary, Mr. Childs, announced that the president would be leaving New Zealand shortly for England, and would be absent on a world tour for approximately 12 months, and a ehairman would be required to take over during his absence. It was moved and unanimously approved that the vicepresident, Mr. C. Larsen, occupy the post. Stating that he would like to see the club acknowledge Mr. Rimmer's past service by a farewell function, Mr. Childs said that he had held the position of president since 1938, and the xclub had showp marked progress during his office. "I would like Mr. Rimmer to leave New Zealand with the thought that the club recognised his valuable service," concluded Mr. Childs. This suggestion was unahi- c mously adopted and it was decided that a function be held m Monday night.
