ENGAGEMENT PARTY

HAPPY BUCKLEY FUNCTION On Thursday evening at the invitation of Mrs. K. S. Thomson, Buckley, some forty guests gathered' to celebrate the engagement of her daughter, Joyce, to Mr. Roy Lochead, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Lochead, Albert Street, Palmerston North. Several -visitors were present from Opiki and Palmerston North. A very pleasant evening was spent dancing to music kindly provided by Mr. R. Lind, Junr., Miss D. Ward and Mrs. C. Wishart. The winners of a Monte Carlo were MI\ . Erie Smith and Miss Peggy Thomson, and the winners of the Gay Gordons were Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Roberts. ■ Entertainment was provided with songs by Mrs. Heggie of Palmerston N[orth (aunt-of Miss Thomson) aiid MrJ R. Lind, Junr., tap danbing by Misses C. Stern and B. Peach and: recitations by Misses Juiie Roberts and Lois Lind. Foilowing a buffet supper,- Mr. Heggie, of Palmerston North, speaking on behalf of Mrs. Thomson, made the announcement of the engagement of the young couple, and in, doing so happily Incorporated some good advice to his niece and her fiancee. In a novel parcel game, Mr. W. H. Roberts, the-u jovial M.C., was the frnal recipient. In returning thanks for the gift, Mr. Roberts congratulated Miss Thomson and Mr. Lochead on the step they had1 taken.
