TEN-DAY STRIKE ENDS
FREEZING WORKERS TO RESUME CHRISTCHURCH, March 31. After a strike lasting -ten days and a half, work will he resuiiied in all; Canterbury freezing works toniorr.ow, The terms of settlement were reached at 5 p.m. today at a .conference between the eompanies and the Canterbury Freezing Workers and Related Trades Union under the chaimanship of the Conciiiation and Wages Commis sioner (Mr. A. B. Rigg). The terms were not disclosed but it is nnderstood that an agr.eement was reached that the guaranteeff minimum weekly wage is to be increased to £6 10s .ex clusive of overtime, the wage to he retrospective to the beginning of the season, "A conference' convened this morning under my chairmanship made satisfactory progress," said Mr. Rigg in a statement, "and xater in the day sucb sufflcient measure of agreement was reached that assurances were given and accepted by both parties and it was agreed that work sbonid be resumed on, {Tuesday morning pending the decision of a tribunal which the .Government has agreed to set up under the strike rnrl lookout emergeney reguiations, " The strike by the workers at the Christchurch city abattoir at Sockburn lasted only cne day. An agreement fciiat the slaugbtermen and other worxers a.i the abattoir should resume work tomorrow morning, was reached at a meet ing between the City, Gouncil and umo,. tonight. The terms "of the settlement will be diseussed by a tribunal set up under the strikes and lockout emerg ency reguiations and the tribunal wouicl probably sit tomorrow afternoon.
