AUCKLAND, March 19. A further fall of over half an inch in the level of Lake Taupo to 1173.5ft was probahiy the most significant develppment in the electric supply situation in the North Isiand today. Taupo, ohe main source of water for the generation of hydro-electric power, has been held steady since the heginning of the week, this period coinciding with the absence of calls for emergency savings in power. With the lake falling again the position may take a more seripus uiirn as storage in the lake must he conserved for heavier future needs. Lake Waikaremoana also showed a fall to 1995.7ft ahove sea level. It has been dropping steadily at 0.1ft a day for some time and the position there is beeoming desperate. Both the Auckland and Waitemata Electric Power Boards kept to the scheduled cuts today and will do so again tomorrow if ' the general supply position permits. No announcement of any curtailment of tramv/ay " services is likely until the heginning of next week. All other facilities remain unaltered.
