SUGGESTED USE OF E.P.S. AS "POWER WATCHERS"

AUCKLAND, Mareh 19. The Emergency Rrecautions Servicc should be used to induce householders and flrms to save electricity. This is the view of Mr. J. A. White, a member of the Council of tlie Canterbury Manufacturers' Association, now in Auck land. Pointing out that the E.P.S. wa--intended to come into action in ;i national emergency, Mr. White suggesfced that wardens should again go into action patrolling homes and contacting householders. RecommendatiQns could be made by "power watchers" to factory and business managements on possible savings in power and a spirit of eooperation would be infused. Local mayors conld inaugurate the scherne witfy appeals for eooperation. Mr. White said it was desirable that the E.P.S. be ready in the event of a partial or complete power shut-off. espeeially for the provision of emergency heating and lighting a,nd trans port for essential goods.
