WOMEN'S DIVISON

SHANNON BRANCH MEETS Mrs. C. Guerin presided over a good attendance of members. for * che March meeting of the Shannon • branch of the Wpmen's Division of Federated Farmers. A letter was received from the farmers' queen committee asking for support for their candidate in the forthcoming fire brigade - carnival. An interim report was given on the dahlia show, following whieh Mrs. K. Thomson (convener) and Mrs. R. H. Charter (secretary) were congratulated on the results of the show. The niames of six members were handed in towards forming a group for instruction in dressmaking, whieh ° will be conducted by Miss Betsy Hichon of the Sarah Anne Rhodes Fellowship. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Misses Grace Smith and Doreen Ward. The monthly competitions resulted as follows: — Bowl of asters, Mrs. A. R. Mills, best collection of biscuits from a given recipe, Mrs. A. R. Mills; hot water bag cover, Mrs. A. R. Mills. It was agreed that the annual general meeting be held on April 14th. Moutoa Branch's Meeting There was a good attendance of members at the March meeting of the Moutoa branch. The secretary^ Mrs. T. Fuller, gave a report on the quarterly meeting of the Manawatu executive. More letters of chanks were received from recipients of parcels sent by the branch to England. Mrs. C. H. Speirs was a visitor from the Shannon branch. Mesdames Noel Jennings, S. Free (Shannon) and Mesdarnes Waldon and F. Cotty (Foxton) were proposed as new mRmhP7\q

It was decided to pack parcels for a children's hospital in- England during April. Members all agreed that a bring-and-buy stall be held at the next meeting, 'the proceeds of whieh will' be donated to "Sunrise," the new home in Auckland for blind children aged from one to 12 years. The results of the gardening circle-best bloom competition over the 12 months were: — Mrs. T. Fuller 1, Mrs. S. W. :Barber 2, Mrs. George Barber 3. A. social competition held during the afternoon was won by Miss Shirley Newth. A sketch entitled "Quits" was acted by Mesdames S. W. Barber, Leo Carter, J. D. Campbell. and Miss McDonald. The afternoon tea hostesses were Mesdames J. McErlean, J. Newth and Miss Shirley Newth. The' annual meeting is to be held in April. ■ •■• '
