WELLINGTON, March 18. The present Wellington sittings of the Gaming Commission were virtually concluded this morning. It is understood that unless any unforeseen' new applications for hearings come forward, it will not sit again until the end of next week and then at New Plymouth. The commission will spend two days there and on March 31 commence sittings at Auckland. In the twelve sitting days in Wellington the commission has examined 32 witnesses, dealing with racing and gambling from many angles. Mechanical hare racing with a claim for totalisator permits was brought before the commission and the matter will be further examined in Napier at the end of next month, \yhen a demonstration of dogs racing after tin hares may be staged for the'information of the commission. In Christchurch early in May the main case for the Trotting Conference will be submitted. Between now and the opening of the New Plymouth sittings members of the commission will inspect country courses in • the Wairarapa and Manawatu, where manual totalisators are installed. They will also be able to digest' the 400 pages of evidence taken in Wellington in addition to the many written submissions that have been tendered.
