SHORTAGE OF SALT
Received Monday, 8.30 p.m. . 8YDNEY, Mai*. 17. The latest commodity to join potatoe.--and sugar on the list of shortages due to the shipping strike, is salt. Unless supplies are fortheoming shortly tln* processing of meats and all cooked foods and the curing of hams and bacon may cease. A number of factories have already warned their staffs of impending dismissals. Potatoes on one of the three ships carrying vegetable cargoes in harbour. have already begun to rot.
