IMPROEVMENTS RECOMMENDED
FOXTON BEACH CAMPING GROUND In a conference "with the Foxton Harbour Board recently, Dr. T. C. Lcnie, of the Health Department, outlined the requirements of a first class camping ground. . He showed how these requirements were not being met at the Foxton Camp, and then fecommended improvements. He recommended a grouping of stand-pipe taps and lavatories into bloeks, the construction of kitchens 'with sufficient Tectric plates ahd' sinks to meet the requirements lbf the ' campers, ■ the construction o'f ablution blocks, even if they only contained show-' ers, a hot water sup'ply, a better drainage system,' better facilities for the disposal of rubbish, a good fresh water supply, .a' clta'rahce of the undergrowth and some system xf night lighting/ ; Mahy of these ' improvements; he said, were beyond the financial capabilitie'S of- t'the board. The trouble lay in the fact that the camp had not grown to plan since its beginning in 1938. On behalf of the board, Mr. W. H. Brown said that he would like to see these improvements carried'out, but as Dr. Lonie had said, the financial resources of the board were not sufficient. Dr. Lonie said that he was not there to enforce the law, but to make recommendations on behalf of the Health Department. . He concluded by saying that Foxton would always be a popular beach, and he would like to see a long term plan. of improvements drawn up.
