WELLINGTON, Marcli 7. "I regret that Mr. Ilolland has made New Zealarid's gift of £12,500,000 to Great Britain the subject of contro versy," said Mr. Fraser this afternoon. Mr. Holland airily dismisses the gift as a book entry but it is in fact the most practicable and aceeptable form oi gift that can be made to the British people at the preseut tiiue. ' ' Mr. Fi;aser said that praetiealiy the vvl\ole of New Zealand 's exportable^surplus of meat and dairy produce was at present going to Great Britain and it was physieally impossible to send something in excess of 100 per cent. Mr. Fraser recalled that in the terms of the American loan to Britain mention was made of the desirabihty for Britain tu refuse sterling balances accumulated by other countries. The policy of the New Zealand Government was and always would be directed to increasing au exportable surplus and thus making more food available to Britain without unnecessary deiay or interruption. ' ' It can fairly be presumed that had Parliament been ealled together, Mr. Holland would have dissented from and criticised the Government 's decision just as he is doing now," Alr. Fraser concluded.
