JOCKEY INJURED IN CRASH

A serious crash occurred during the runuing of the Nolan Cup at the Egmont Raeing Club's summer meeting at Hawera on Saturday. Two riders, J. W. Jenkins and B. Brennan, suffered iujuries and were sent to the Hawera liospital aud oue horse, Staudee, suffered injuries that will prevent her from raeing again. The incident occurred just after the field had entered the straiglit. E1 Tiger, ridden by Jenkins, *' fell, and Standee, ridden by Brennan, who wa."? behind him, caine over E1 Tiger. The falls raised . a cloud of dust, and when this eJoared away it could be seen that oue horse was injured and that botli riders were lying on the 'grouud appareutly uirconscious. Breunan escaped with a shaking and sJight concussion and is expected to be in the saddle again iiext Saturday. Jenkins, however, was not so fortunate. He suffered concussion and a broken jaw, and it is likely to be some time before he will ride again. Ati inquiry -was opened by the judicial stewards of the Egmont Raeing Club, but after the available evidence had been taken the inquiry was adjourned until Jenkins and Brennan can give evidence. -It was thought that Standee would have to be destroyed -because a bone in her sliouldcr had been broken, but an endeavour is now being made to preserve her for the stuchV'
