Received Thursday, 7 p.m. WASIliNGTuN, Feb. 26; In reply to Mr. Bevin ';s declaration m the British Commons on Tuesdav bhat President Truman had wrecked thi possibilitv of an amicable solution oi • the Palestinian problem, White House today issued the foilowing statement: "The impression that has arisen from vcsterday 's debate in the British Par tiament that America 's interest in Palestine and the settlement of Jews there is motivated by partisan and loca'l politics, is niost unfortunate and mis Jeading; The IJresident's statement oi October 4, 1946, which was referred to in tliat debate, nierely reaffirnied tlje •itt il ude- towards Palest ine and Jewish immigration to Palestine which the. United Htates Government had publicly expressed sinee the summer of 1045. , Phis attitude was and is based upon the ilesire of 'tlie President to advanee a just solution of the Palestine problem Our posi tion on this subject was com- ; municated to the British Government by the President in his lettev to Mr Attlee on August 31, 1945, which was 'uiblicly released by the President on ovember 13, 1945 when -he announced : he establishment of the joint AngloAnierican Gomniittee of Inquiry. The statement of Oc'tober 4,_1046, reit'erated this Government's position which wjas alread v ful'ly knoii'-n to a'll partie's to t^e Palestine negotiations. American interest is of a long and continuous standing. It is a deep and abiding interest dvared by our people without regard t.o their political affiliation,"
