"1 am not against the catchment board taking over this board wnen it is ready to do so, but 1 do not think it is one whit further ahead in its work'than it was 12 months ago,"' said Mr. R. J. Law. It was stated by members of the board that the smalier bodies in the distnct would be able to do river protection work more easily than the larger body. It was decided to inform the catchment ooard that the questions raised by that body would be deferred until a full meeting of the river board. The engineer, Mr. H. R. Farquhar, reported that good progress was- being made on the Taupunga groyne at the Taupunga cut... Three piles were required to close the gap. "The flood of February 15, 1947, maihtained a level of nine feet for four -hours at the Fitzherbert bridge, overtopping the groyne by tliree feet," he said. "The left pile of the gap was two feet out of plumb, there being no further damage to the piling."
