SUCCESSOR TO GARBO
England's Ealing Studios' .new favc-urite is blonde, sultry Mai (pronounced My) Zetterling, 'Swed:?h successor to Greta Garbo and Ingrid Bergman. The slight, blueeyed Mai, 21 years of age, is now pu/ting the finishing touches to Esling's version of the stage success, "Frieda" — in which she plays a German girl married to a Britkh serviceman; he takes her home o live with the family. Next she will play Sophia Dorothea, the uragic wife of George I. in "Saraband for Dead Lovers," adapted from the novel by the late Helen Simpson. Although Mai spent four years in Australia as-a child, she could speak inly a few words of English when Tie arrived in England — accompanied by her Norwegian balletdancer husband and their 17-month-old daughter.
