LEVIN WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
FIRST MEETING OF YEAR* The Levin Women's Institute last week resumed its meetings for 1 1947. The attendance was fair and all were welcomed by the president, ' Mrs. Kellaway. Apologies were ' received from Mesdames Stack, Saveil, Sciascia, Hatch, Norgrove, Harvey, Sharp and Bott. There was quite a large amount of business to be done in reference to nominations for various elections, as the month of March ends the year for Women's Iristitutes. Two letters had been received from the sister link in Surrey, England, and afforded very good reading. One notable itern ;especially interesting was the fact jthat one member during the years 11940 to 1946 made herself responsible for the war-saving group of the Women's Institute, and collected £16,262. The president congratulated all the competitors at the recent Horowhenua A. and P. show, as the Levin Women's Institute had won the shield for the first time. Arrangements were made to compete again in the Women's Institute courts at the forthcoming flower show. After the business had been disposed of the remainder of the evening was social. Mrs. McLeavey, Mrs. Seddon and Miss Powell were the winners of the competitions. The results of the monthly competitions were as. follows: — Flowers: Mrs. Burt 1, Mrs. Milne 2, Mrs. McLeavey 3. Shrub: Mrs. Milne 1, Mrs. Dalton 2, Mrs. Maugham 3. Vegetable: Mrs. Milne. Jam: Mrs. Milne 1, Mrs. Nichoi 2. Spray : Mrs. Dalton.
