CONTEMPT OF COMMONS
LONDON, Feb. (i. The Committee of Frivileges reported on the incident in the House of Commons on Deeember 19 in whicli Mr. P. Piratin, the Coiumunist M.P., and a Press Association gallery reporter, Alr, T. B. Lucy, were involved. It expressed the opinion that in striking ^fr. Lucy Mr. Piratin was guilty of gross contempt of tlie Ilouse, and that Mr. Lucy was also guilty of contempt. "An assault in the precincts of the House while the House is sitting must be regarded as a serious ofTence against the dignity of the House," said tho Committee. '"'That the assault was committed- by a inetnber upou a non••memb'er does not (liminish the contempt, lieing derogatory to the dignity and honour of the whole body of which he is a member. " The Committee found that offensive words passed on botli sides, and added, that in view of the apologies Messrs, Piratin and Lucy had already mailo, the House cou-ld vindicate the safeguards to its dignitv by expressing and recording its e.xtreme displeasure.
