ANXIETY IN U.S.A.
Eeceived Friday, 7 p.m. NEW YOEK, Feb. 6. The Journal of Commerce says it is high time Congress took some dellnite steps to protect the American wool industry to enable it to continue to supply the country's basic needs. The British Empire will completely contml the raw wool world pri'ce structure for the next eight to ten years. In recent testimony before the Tariff Commission, not only American woolgrowers but also woollen millers emphasised the need of protection. Wool manufacturers seem pretty well agreed that a strong, healthy manufacturing industry needs an equally strong woolgrowing industry. The sheep raisers' inability to compete with foreign wool prices, combined with the high price of meat, has decreased the sheep - population alarmingly. The entire question is caming to a head in April when the United Stated Crovernment purchase of raw wool through the Commodity Credit" Corporation, is due to expire. This scheme assures a guarantefea lixed price to growers and if it lapsed the liquidation of the wool industry would un doubtedly be hastened. —
