MORE POWERS TO MORE COMMISSIONERS

The Federai Cabinet has approved of proposals to amend the Conunonwealth Conciliation and Arbitration Aet to provide for the appointmeut of a greatly increased number of Conciliation Gomniissioners who will be aeeorded wider powers than at present in settiing industrial disputes. h'lie C omi.ao.iioners will Le appointed to various lields of industry and wil'I be selected according to qualifications required in each tvpe of industry. Gonsideration of proposed amendnients to the Arbitration Act followed a series of c'onferenCes begun by Xlr. Uhitiey at which represeritatives of empioyers and employees discussed with a speeial Cabinet sub-comnnttee, the suggestions of various organisations on ameiidiuents to the Act. A draft Bi-11 has now been approved for submission to caucus.
