RAILWAY ENGINEERS TO STOP WORK
Received Thursday, 11.10 p.m. SYDXEY, Feb. 6. Allj members of the Sydney distriet i )f the Ainalgamated Engineering Union employed by the Railways Departnient, ! will stop work tomorrow for an in- I definite peri-od. A dispute began at the railway workshops on Xromlay and now involves more than 1000 men. Stopwork meetings will be held tomorrow at all railway shopa in the distriet and the men will attend a mass meeting on Xtonday to discuss the conduct of strikes. There will be no immedjate transport hold-up but the effects will be felt in .a power failure and disrepair of rollingstoek if the dispute' lasts long. The dispute concerns the nonpayment of men at the Ghullora workshops for the Anniversary holidav. A Railways Department official said that the meil had been giveh an extra day 's holiday. He believed that they had now extended their demands to include a five-day week, penalty rates for weekend work, and three woeks' annual holiday.
