FEWER TYRES RELEASED
RETREADERS' BUSY MONTH Fewer tyres have been available this month than during any similar period last year according to local retailers. This they attribute mainly to hold-ups on the wharves and general shipping difflculties. Two big shipments were said to be on the water and the situation is expected to improve during February. Meanwhile tyre retreaders are kept at high pressure and are daiiy confronted with tasks which would' never have been contemplat'ed in normal times. A large heap of tyres awaiting attention at a local retreaxling establishment present a sorry sight. Some had large gaping holes through v/hich a normal fist could pass with ease, and others were nearly severed. The majority were the aftermath of the receht holidays. Many optimists had trusted to luck to see them througn but their failure to combine careful driving with fortune, had resulted in disaster.
