MANAKAU W.I.

At the January meeting of the Manakau Women's Institute, fewer members were present than usual owing to the holidays, but in spite of this a very pleasant afternoon was spent. Miss Cotter presided. During the afternoon all stood in silence for a few moments as an expression of sympathy to a member, Mrs. Barkla, who has recently lost her only son. Further arrangements were made for the annual fiower show which is to be held on February 20 and the stewards were also appointed. The prize for -"A Slice of Christmas Cake" was won by Miss Cotter with Mrs. Hill second. First prize for the best fiower went to Mrs. Neilson with 'Mrs. L. Staples secoild." The entries" in the Christmas cake competition were then cut and disposed of at afternoon tea.
