SHANNON SPORTS CLUB
COMMITTEE PLANS PRGGRAMME Arrangements for ihe forthcoming Shannon sports were discussed in Laurvig's Hall on Wednesday evening when the committee of the club gathered to arrange a programme. The president (Mr. S. W. Barber) occupied the chair and those present were Messrs. R. Vinsen (secretary), V. McEwen, G. G. Mitchell, E. Barber, W. Moynihan and C. Guerin. ApolOgies for absence were received Xrom Messrs. G. Barber, D. and L. Williams, R. Hook, J. Law, W. Guerin, J. D. Campbell and R. R. Lind. With the growing popularity of pony clubs in the district, the committee decided to assist by increasing the prizes for all pony events, and the secretary was asked to notify all pony clubs of this intention. ThQ secretary was also asked to contact the Horowhenual Pipe Band with the object of having the band provide the music for, the function. Arrangements were discussed for the holding of highland dancing events. It was brought to the notice of the committee that since the last meeting the Horowhenua Marching Association had been formed, and it was agreed that the organisation be contacted in an endeavour to have the association provide one or two events. The secretary reported that judging by the number of enquiries, it was expected that there would be a record number of entries, and as the sports are being held on March 3, which is considerably earlier than last year, it is hoped that weather sonditions will be more favourable. It was decided that the usual dance, which will incorporate the presentation of trophies, should be held in the evening, and matters in mnnection with that function were also put in hand.
