BELL WINS CHAMPIONSHIP TenYis players and the community as a whole will be pleased to hear of the success of Mrs. Bell, one of Otaki's most prominent players, who was successful last week in winning the championship cup at the Palmerston North tournament, when she defeated leading players from various parts of the Dominion. Mrs. Bell, playing consistently. and well, gave a splendid exhibition, and. at the conclusion of her successful games received heartiest congratulations from. many. The event won was the Manawatu open championship singles. It is worthy of note that Mrs. Bell defeated Miss T. Greaves, title holder for Taranaki and Wanganui last season and also for this season, by 3 — 6, 6 — 1 and 6 — 4. Mrs. Bell also defeated Mrs. Evans in the final 6 — 1 and 6 — 4, a fine performance. Mrs. Bell is the first Manawatu lady to win the trophy since it was first played for in 1924. The titleholders include Misses P. Nichols, tNessie Beverley and Margaret Beverley, while a New South Wales lady has also been a title-holder. I In the mixed doubles championjship Mrs. Bell and Dr. MacGibbon reached the semi-finals, but were beaten by Miss J. Barnett and A. Nash 6 — 4. 1 — 6 and 2 — 6.
