Women as Drivers
"It is a fallaey that women drivers are worse than men drivers," said Mr. J. H. R. Semple. chief traffic inspector of No. 4 Transport District, which comprlses the southern half of the North Island, in an interview yesterday. "When it comes to a driving test, once a woman driver has overeome the initial nervousness of being under a test, she is far more confiden.t than a man and in many cases a better driver." he contended. Building of Bj|}ls Bridge The first of three contracts for the construction of the quarter-r niile.-long reinforeed Coircrefe hiehway bridge across the Rangitikei Riv.er south of Bul)s township is almost complete, according to the Wanganui Public Works Department office. Ali.the piles have been driven in the riverbed and one pier abutment only remains to be comr "pleted. The second contract, which has been let to the eontractor, who undertook the first,. ealls for the fixture of the girders upon the piers. The thifd, not yet let, will be for $he construction of the decking and the eompletion of the bridge.
