Milford Track Closed
Milford Track is still closed to tourists. Repair work began about two months ago but apparently the task has proved more difficyU than was expected. Before Christmas the Tourist Department indicaUd that the track would be open by the middle of January, but the Invercargill representative of the 4epartment could only say yesterday that they hoped to open it for the present holid&y season. Tourists will not be permitted to go over the track until the repair work is - completed and the huts are staffed. ~ The track has for some time been negotiable by reasonably experienced trampers, but apparently the pqlicy of the department is not to allow independent parties to use it.
