PREPARATIONS FOR SHOW
GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETS
The holding of an agricultural show involYes a vast amount of detailed preparation and arrahgement, and this occupied the attention of the Horowhenua A. and P. Association's general committee this week when many matters relating to its annual show on January 31 and February 1 were finalised. The association's membership continues to grow, over .60 new members being proposed and elected at the meeting. It was decided that the admission char°'es be the same as at last year's show. These are: — Gates: Adults 2s, children up to 15 years 6d, vehicles 2s. Grandstand, second day only: Adults 2s 6d, * children up to 15 years ls. Night show: Gates: Adults ls 6d, children up to 15 years 6d. Grandstand: Admission ls. Members and their children up to 15 years of age are admitted free to all sections-,of the. show, while no charge is'made for the admissio'n of their vehicles to the groundfs. • Mr. C. E. C. Webb stated that he had contacted the Levin Young Farmers' Club and at least six of its members had signified their intention of assisting as stewards at the show. Mr. C. H. Arcus spoke on the subject of the general public's , attitude towards judging, emphasising the need for some oropaganda • oit the part of breed societies. This was discussed fully, 'but a decision was held over in the meantime. The Royal Agricultural Society wrote asking the association to appolnt delegates to its meeting. The president (Mr. J. A. Kilsby) and Mr. H. J. Lancaster were appointed. Mr. W. Kilsby offered £5 towards the prize money in the eight-horse Nteam display. The committee decided to contribute £5 also and that ! the prizes be £6 (first) and £4 (second). A motion of thanks to Mr. Kilsby for his offer was passed. I It was resolved to hold working ,bees at the grounds on Saturday, January 18, and Monday, January • 20. The question of canvassing for gift sheep was raised, and it was suggested that if a lorry was available a good number of sheep would be entered. It was suggested that a sheep shearing competition be held at the show. but it was felt that it was too late to include a competition at the forthcoming show. The matter is to be considered for next year's fixtures.
