Minor Associations to Meet I With a view to instituting inter- ' association comnetitions in the , senior B and junior grades, a spec- : ial meeting of delegates of the Manawatu, Horowhenua, Feilding, Rangitiket-and Southern Hawke's Bay "Minor Cricket Associations 'has been ealled for Monday night. : Building Permits Issued { Seven building permits to the : total yalue of £4,485 were issued in , the Horowhenua County during the month, as against six for the cor- : responding period last year repre- ; senting buildings to the value of £3,949. These figures were contained in the report of the engineer , (Mr. W. H. Fraser) to the Horoj whenua County Counqil at its I monthly meeting yesterday. I Visit of Lord Bledisloe It is not yet certain that Lord and Lady Bledisloe will be coming to New Zealand after their visit to . Australia, owing to shipping difhculties, says an Auckland report. Lord Bledisloe is on a goodwill miiSr sion for the Royal Agricultural Society of England and. is travgl4ingto Australia "in, the Orontes. He is expected to arrive there in the middle of this month. No definite information of a visit to New Zealand is expected until after Lord and Lady Bledisloe reach Australia and if they come it is expected to be for a short period only in March. For Backward Children An extension of the training of snecialist teachers to help backward children in New Zealand primary sehools hus been announced by the Education Department, • and special courses will be provided at the Christchurch Teachers' Training College for entrants from all of the Dominion'. Applications will close this week. Candidates , must have had at least six years' , teaching experience in primary , sehools, and must be prepared to undertake a full year's specialist { training, beginning when the Training College session opens in February. They "will be paid at | their present salary rates. Intimating that it does not wish teachers already engaged in the teaching of backward children to enter the new course, the Department states that- its aim is to increase the staff available for this work, without interfering with the existing servfce.
