"MONTY" ARRIVES IN MOSCOW
Received Tuesday, 11.30 a.m. LONDON, Jan. 6. Viscount Montgomery has arrived in Moscow. He was met by Marshal Vasilevsky, chief of the Soviet General Staff, and they shook hands warmly. Viscount Montgomery said that Russia was a nation which hadsuffered most severely from the war. Her people bore their sufferiing in brave silence. "I salute the brave Russian people. I want to establish friendlv contact with the Soviet Army, and I hope there may develop mutual understanding, respect and a hap^v relationship for the mutual benefit of all." Viscount Montgomery brought Marshal Vasilevsky a gift from London, and will present it later in the evening.
