Tlie New Zeala'rul jockeys of 45 years ago had a reunion vvlien tlie well-known Randwiek trainer, Mr. George Brice, uiet Tod Hewitt on the latter'a arrival from India, They raccd together in Xew Zealand but while Mr. Price came to Sydney to establisli himself as one of the most successful trainers in his •lay, Mr. Hewitt rode and later trained in India. At the spring meeting at Randwiek in 1905 all six races were won by New Zealand horses of which Hewitt rode three — Machinegun, Sungod and Night fall. He was born in Melbourne but went to New Zealand as a j-outh and was jtttached to the stables of the trainer of (Hoaming, Mr. R. Mason. Mr. Hewitt rode for Mr. G. G. Stead, for whom he won four New Zealand derbies, adding a flfth with the colours of Mr. G. L. Stead. There was scareely a race of importance in New Zealand which he did not win and the reeords of Australian racing show his name t'egularly. At the 1906 meeting he won the Epsom Handienp on Maximise and the Metropolitan on Solution. Later in England he was also. successful. Ile has spent 28 years in India. The present visit, which will include New Zealand, is a holidnv one, '
