HALL SHIELD CRICKET Perfect cricketing weather was again experienced on Saturday_ when the eighth series in the Hall" Shield - competition was played. The championship points to date are: Weraroa 43, Paraparaumu 38, Old Boys 30, Otaki A 28, Levin 23, Coilege A 25, College B and Otaki B 13, and Shannon A and Shannon B 0. Old Boys secured a five-point win over ' Otaki B when playmg" at Otaki. The horae team batted first and gathered 53 runs, Shernack (31) and Stevens (14) being the only batsmen to stand up to the bowling. Bowling for Old Boys, Munford took four wickets for nine runs and Stratton two for . two. Old Boys made 174/Jfidd (71) being the main coiitributor. . Bartosh accounted for three wickets at lo v cost. Otaki went in for another innings and compiled a further 100, Shernack and Tahiwi each making 15. V.) Lynch captured four wickets for 18 runs. Paraparaumu had a comfortable win over College B at Levin. Paraparaumu batted first and made a good total of 238, Crowe retiring at x'jO. Lambert took three wickets at a low cost. College were then faced with the almost impossible task cf catching up to this score, and were all dismissed at 76. Lambert (not out 30) and MacFarlane (22) were the chief batsmen. H. Weggery" was the main Paraparaumu bowler, taking seven College wickets for 16 runs. Shannon B. suffered another defeat at the hands of College A. Shannon batted first and made 64, Feach (34) being the top scorer. Bowling for College, S. B. Sciascia took three wickets for seven runs. College did little better in. their first innings only making 69, Clapcott with 18 being the main contrihutor. Vinsen captured five wickets for 26 runs. In their second innings Shannon were dismissed for 36 runs, Peach again making the top figures with 13. Sciascia again bowled- well to take five for 24 College declared in their second innings at 101, McClune 749) and Sciascia (34) being the principal batsnvf.i. Vinsen took two wickets at a low cost. Otaki A had a 30-run win over Levin. Levin opened the batting and scored 178, C. Walker (42) and Veysey (33) forming a good partnership. Heatherwick was the most successful Otaki bowler, taking five wickets for 68 runs. Herb.'Rice .proved- to> be the Otaki mainstay and this representative batsman -had reached 110 before being caught by Galloway ofl: Longton Otaki were eventually. dismissed for 208. Walker captured four wickets at a cost of 32 runs.
