BOYS OF THE LEVIN FARM ENTERTAINEB The • Levin Women's Institute, assisted by the Kimberley,- Ihakara, Koputaroa, Lindsay, Waitarere and Levin Junior Institutes, . recentiy gave a Christmas party to the boys of the Levin Farm, Kimberley Road. The hall was beautifully decorated with flags, bunting, everi greens and flowers. As the boys marched in, each was given a papei hat and an ice cream. A short concert programme was then presented as follows: Mr. K. A. Bowater's girls elioir, two action songs; Mr. Bai, song and ukelele; Miss Bowden, elocutionary items; Miss Aim's pupils, a dance; Barry Walker, recitation; Allan Coilett, songs; Mr. Andrieksen ahd his magic. puring the interval Mr. Guy, supervisor, took the opportunity oi thanking the Women's Institutes for the interest they were taking in the boys, and the joy the evening had given them. He express.ed the hope that they would be remembered again next year. Refreshmeiits were then served to the boys, ice cream, cordials and cakes. The highlight of the evening was the uncGvering of the beautifully decorated Christmas tree, with CQloured lights. The curtains were chen drawn back and displayed the girls of the choir in their white frocks at the foot of the tree singing carols. Mr. Bowater asked all present to sing one verse of each carol, with a special request tq the boys to. sing a verse of "Silent Night." Father Christmas then arrived with his bag of gifts, and each boy received a gift suitably chosen. The boys who had left on holiday are to receive their gifts when they return. The evening concluded with the singing of the New Zealand National Anthem, after which each boy was given a bag of sweets as he went out. Later, Mr. Guy entertained the ladies and took the opportunity to introduce Dr. Russell, of Wellington, who visited Levin specially for the party. «Dr. Russell thanked Mrs. Kellaway and her helpers for the wonderful evening they had provided for the boys, and hoped they would continue the good work of helping to make life better and brighter for the less fortunate ones. He urged the women to try and encourage the young women to take up nursing, as in the near future the Levin Farm would have a large number of girls, and young people would be required for the youhger ■children. Iir reply, Mrs. Kellaway thanked Dr. Russell for his kind remarks, and said that the institutes hoped to be able to help the boys with further entertainments.
