FIRE QUICKLY SUPPRESSED
SMART ACTION BY BRIGADE The ringing of the fire bell caused considerable excitement at about 3.15 p.m. yesterday afternoon. It was found that sparks from a nearoy incinerator had set fire to a stack of wood at the rear of Vinsen's billiard saloon. The strong wind which was blowing at the time qu'ickly fanned the flames, and there was a danger that the iron ohed against which the wood was stacked would be destroyed. ' i£owever, fire buckets and a stirrup pump were obtained from the rafi • vay station, and a bucxet brigade kept the flames in check until ihe arrival of the brigade, which quickly quelled tlie fire. A number of cafdboard cartons and wooden boxes in the shed caught alight, but there was not a great aeal of damage done. Credit must be given to the local brigade on the quick response to the alarm. Several members who work a considerable distance from the fire station were on the scene within a few minutes of the soundine of the ala.rm
