MAKERUA DRAINAGE
SUBSIDIES FOR NEW WORK ! | Advice was received at the meeting of the Makerua Drainage Board, held in Palmerston North on Thurs- | day, that the Soil Conservation and Rivers Control Council had granted an additional subsidy of £3 to £1 on proposed new work in the I board's area, which is estimated to (COSt £3672. Trustee J. D. Aitchison ' presided and Trustees I. Croad, H. Sames, S. H. Claridge, N. B. Gibbons, L. J. Vile and W. McWilliams ' were also present. The board's overseer (Mr. P. V. Tucker) reported that during the month Nos. 1 and 2 drains and the ; connecting drain had been cleaned throughout, and all slips removed. 'New screens had been fitted to the | Mangaore pump. He also reported that protection work on the upper portion of the Whitaunau erosion ,was nearing completion, and that the lower portion could not be done juntil the stopbank was set back. : No work had been done during the | month on the old main drain, north : of the intersecting channel. r ■
