Only niatters • of importance were dealt with to enable members to be present at the children's party. Mr. S. W. Barber occupied the chair and those present were Messrs. E. J. I Gunning (secretary) , V. J. Baceman ; (treasurer) , C. H. Johnson, H. C. ' Young, R. L. Grant, C. F. Young, T. 'S. Downes, C. Guerin, J. Ritchie, I. 1 Falkner, D. Purcell and E. E. Morris. Apologies for absence were 1 received from Messrs. J. H. Sinclair, B. Moynihan, R. S. Downes and M. , B. Moynihan. A welcome was extended to Mr. I Ron Grant, a new member. On the motion of Mr. Bateman, Messrs. J. ' M. Kenny, R. L. Neil and W. H. Jennings were elected new members. | Messrs. G. St. Q. Fitzgerald, of | Otorohanga, W. R. Grange, of PalI merston North, and Waaka Toroa- ; white, of Wellington, were transj ferred into the local branch, while I Mr. A. J. Simes was transferred out i to the Palmerston North branch. ! The secretary advised that the , membership roll now stood at 233, being made up of 187 members from Shannon and 46 from Tokomaru. It was noted that Mr. N. R. Price, a local member, was in hospital. Correspondence was received 1 from Dominion headquarters in connection with the issuing of badges to the Women's Section. It was resolved that these badges be issued on the same terms as R.S.A. badges. ~ The Under-Secretary of the Department of Internal Affairs advised in reply to an enquiry from the branch, that subsidies could only be arranged on war memorials that were in the nature of a community centre. In reference to Christmas greeting cards, members were of the opinion that it was now too late to have cards printed, and the secretary was asked to write to neighbouring branches extending the season's greetings from Shannon members, greetings to be also extended to the Women's Institute, the Women's Section, the Women's Divislon of Federated Farmers and other organisations. The secretary advised that the Rose Day saies amounted to £13 9's 3d, of which the profit to the-- local branch was £9 3s lld. Meihbers !expressed great satisfaction at!;tfiis' : re'sult, '-and congratulated the 'Women's4 Section -on the effort." The joint secretary of the recently held reunion, Mr. T. S. Downes, presented s. report and balance sheet on the function. All members were of the opinion that the reunion was an outstanding success. Mr. J. Ritchie placed on record his thanks to those members who found accommodation for the members of the Tin Hat Club while they were in Shannon. In reference to a circular in connection with retrospective application of overseas leave provisions, , which came into force in April, 1944, second war members were j asked to note that application forms for this leave could be obtained at any post office. A copy of the circular might be inspected at Mr. W. H. Gunning's premises by making application to Mr. Gunning. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the chair.
