NEW EXIT NOT APPROVED

RACING CLUB'S REQUEST A statement that the amcrnnt of work and subsequent financial outlay did not warrant the formation of a new link connecting Manuao and Freeman's Roads, as requested by the Otaki Maori Racing Club, was made by the chairman of the Horowhenua County Council, Mr. G. A. Monk, at the monthly meeting of the council at Levin on Friday. A report by a special committee which had investigated the whole matter had been received, and it appeared that the scheme would involve considerable expense. He suggested that the club be advised accordingly, and copies of the estimates forwarded for its perusal. A letter from the club, which was read at the meeting, mentioned that the club understood from Cr. Taylor that the council was pre--pared to widen and tar seal the existing road, allowing for three lanes of traffic — two outward from the course, and one inward. The club intimated that it was agreeable to the payment of £100 towards this work, and asked that it be proceeded with to allow for its completion before the forthcoming races. The club also requested that a report on the progress of the deliberations in regard to the proposed linking of Manuao and Freeman's roads be submitted to it." Cr. Taylor said the statement made by the club that the council intended tar sealing the road was contrary to fac" Ohere must have been a misurtderdanding somewhere, he said. The plan was to widen the road to five feet, by filling in with clay and top dressing with metal. There had been no suggestion of tar sealing the road. The clerk (Mr. F. H. Hudson) said the club had been advised accordingly, and had been told that the work would commence when th'e £100 had been deposited.
