Election Apathy
Some of the deputy-returnmg officers cohcerped in an election to fill a vacancy on the Auckland Transport Board reported after the voting that they had ljttle to do, the poll being a light ope. In one area, a deputyr-returnjpg offlcer was on duty from 9 a.m. urjtil 7 p.m., at a hjred hall, apd, for his fee of £3, he recorded the vote of one elector.
