An English steward on the linmAsturias, John Henry Holmes, aged 21, was today sentenced to iive years' liard labour for having maliciously sct fire to the ship at Woolloomooloo 011 November 22. In evidence Holmes admitted starting a iire in a cabin following a "sudden impulse. " Judge Holden said Holmes' previomeharaeter was in his favour but the crinie was most serious, had endangered the lives of others,* had causeil most serious monetary loSs and niight have destroyed tlie ship.
