HOROWHENUA COLLEGE
PRIZE GIVING CEREMONY TOMORROW Tomorrow afternoon the annual prize giving ceremony will be held at the Horowhenua College. The ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. in the assembiy hall of the college. The speaker will be Professor F. P. Wilscn. The college was open to parents on Friday, from 1.45 to 3.30 and from 7 to 9 p.m. A large crowd of visitors listened to the school singing and saw displays of work in building, engineering, art, dressmaking, -social studies, science, commerce and physical education. The .visitors were entertained at afternoon tea in the assembiy hall by Miss Coleman and the girls of the home science department. Many visitors expressed their pleasure in the excellent quality of the work displayed, and in the hospitality of Miss Coleman and her girls. Such functions as these were invaluable, said the princinal, Mr. N. A. Byrne, when addressing the gathering. It not oniv gave t*-« public a knowledge of the work being done at the college, but 'also provided an opportunity for the staff to make the acquaintance of parents, and to discuss their mutual problems. . • During a tour of the school the visitors saw classes at work. In one room there was an exhibition of touch typing to music, and furniture made by the senior trade students was on display. The standard was exceptionally high. In the engineering shop tools and mcdels made by the engineering students were exhibited. A wide selection of frocks- clothing and needle work on display in the sew1' ing room drew favourable commerit. In the arr room posters, lino cuts,. letters and design work were featured.
