ATTRACTIVE PROGRAMME

R.S.A. PLANS BEACH CARNIVAL A feature of the forthcoming R.S.A. carnivai will be the holding of a cycling road race under the auspices of the Levin Amateur Athietic and Cycling Club. This was revealed at a meeting of the Memorial Hall Committee last night, when a letter was received from the club suggesting that the race be held on December 28, starting from Mr. F. Chainey's shop, Oxford Street, to Waitarere Beach, a distance of 9£ miles. The club pointed out, however, that it would first be neeessary for the R.S.A. to obtain permissio'n from the Transport Department, Mr. P. Young intimated th.at he had written to the department and was awaiting a reply. Provision has also been allowed, in the very attractive programme compiled by the committee, for the holding of motor cycle races on the "Waitarere Beach. Events for home servicemen are also included. Mention was made of the interest taken in the carnivai by hcme servicemen, many of whorn had intimated their desire to assist che committee. The Levin Municipal Band wrote expressing its regret that it would be unable to attend as the majority of their bandsmen would be absent during the.period of the carnivai. Mr. Young said the other dands had also been approached and replies were awaited. In connection with the work at ihe aerodrome, Mr. G. Armstrong said he had contacted Mr. E. J. Stanley, manager of the Boys' rraining Centre, who had offered to arrange for a party of six to assist the campaign committee on Thursday. Present at the meeting were: Mr. II. "J. Lancaster (chairman;, •Messrs. P. Stewart, H. Webb, P. Young, D. Brown, J. P. Coulson, J. J. Gallagher, G. Armstrong, W. Copping, F. Fletcher, A. T. Fletcher, L. Allen, J. Allen, W. Davie, C.
