POSTAL CONFERENCE

.WELLINGTON, Dec. 10. Mr. P. N. Cryer, Director-General of Ihe Post OHice, left New Zealand by air Jast week to attend the conference at New York of postal experts from countries which are memhers of Enited Nations Urganisation, stated lion. F; Jones today. Mr. Cryer is being uccoinpanied iiv Mr. P. F. Htevens, of the postal division of the head ohice stalf. The purposo of the conference is to drai't proposals for bringing the Univorsal Postal Union into relationsliip willi United Nations Organisation. It is expected the conference, which commenced on December 10, will last about ten days. Wliilo in New York oppor tunity will be takou by Mr. Cryer to discuss with representatives of British Coninionwealth Governiuents, present postal matters of Empire interest. During Mr. Cryer 's absenco Mr. C. O. Coad, deputy (lirector-general, is in c.harge of the department. Mr. D A.. M linden, second deputy director-n-°-eral, is acling dejmty director-generai and Mr. II. W. Curtis, divisional direc tor, is acling as second deputy directorgenerai.
