LEVEL CROSSING FATALITY

CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 10. A collision betvveen a train and car occurred on the Northbrook Eoad crossing, Rangiora, about 3.30 p.m. today, resulting in a man being killed and a boy being injured. The victims were: — Killed Francis Forester Jackson, aged (59, widovver, East Beit, Rangiora. Injured Charles F. Leech, aged (5 ycars, head injuries. Condition serious. Mr. Jackson, who was a retired blacksinith, liad gone to meet liis grandson 'Charles Leech, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Leech, Caniside, and Mary Jano Bcnnott, aged 1.1, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Beniiett, Camside, to tako tliein home in his car to avoid the rain, lle niet Ihe children after school and placed the boy next to himself with the girl on the outside of the front seat. He also took on board bicycles on whicl) the children liad ridden to school. A goods train proceeding towards Iiangiora from (Southbrook struck the car which was travelling east and carried it across the catlie stop before throw ing it to one side of the line. Mr. Jack son died immediately and the boy, who was in a dazed condition, was sent to Christchurch hospital. The girl was ablo to go to lier lioine appax*eutly uninjured.
