HEAVY STOCK ENTRIES

PRICES FIRM AT LEVIN SALE There were large yardings of all classes of stock at the Levin weekly sale yesterday, when prime quality lots brought rates on a par with last week's high values. The sheep entry was larger than usual, with a superabundance of fat ewes, although fat hoggets and fat lambs were in shorter supply. A fairly large yarding of store sheep sold above the vendors' expectations owing to the recent quick growth. The large entry of fat cattle met with keen competition from a big bench of buyers, all cattle being absorbed at prices fully on a par with recent saies. The pig yarding was again extremely heavy and resulted in keen competition throughout, the uop price for baconers being £7 2s. The following is a range of the prices realised: — Sheep: Prime woolly wethers, £2 to £2 5s 4d; light woolly ewes, 27s lOd to 29s ld; prime shorn wethers, 32s lOd to 33s lOd; medium, 31s 4d to 32s ld; light, 29s lOd to 31s ld; prime shorn ewes, 22s 4d to 24s ld; medium, 20s 4d to 21s 7d; light, down to 18s; prime woolly hoggets, 35s 4d to 37s lOd; prime shorn hoggets, 30s 4d; medium, 27s lOd to 28s lOd; prime fat lambs, 32s lOd; medium, 27s 7d to 29s ld; light, 25s 4d to 26s 7d; store shorh w.f. wether hoggets, 25s ld to 28s 3d; shorn w.f. ewe hoggets, 24s to 27s 3d; shorn ewes with lambs at foot, 14s all counted; cull m.s. w.f.. shorn hoggets, 18s.
