TELEPHONE COMMUNICATION
EXTRA LINES ALLOCATED TO LEVIN The installation of a 12 channel telephone circuit between Wellington and Palmerston North is at present being made. This system has been in use for some tfme between Auckland and Wellington, and by the utilisation of wireless frequencies enables the transmission of 12 conversations at one time over the one set of wires. Levin will not directly benefit . by this installation, though the testing point will be established here. Its operation will, however, release 12 single circuits for other offices, Levin being allocated four of these, comprising one extra line to Wellington, two to Palmerston North and one to Paraparaumu. The postmaster, Mr. L. A. Whitham, said yesterday that this would greatly relieve the pressure of tolls during the Christmas rush period, particularly to Wellington: The lines to Wellington were busiest during the mornings. Hc considered one more line tb Wellington would be required to cope with the rush. The additional lines will give the post office a total of three lines to Wellington, five to Palmerston North and two to Paraparaumu.
